Trip to the Ring of Beara and Killarney

This trip was a bit a flight from my flat mates. My girlfriend Anne-France arrived the weekend before and I took two day`s of. Wednesday afternoon we started in the Dublin afternoon traffic jam. Our goal was Kilkenny which was said to be a really nice town. After some difficulties in finding our hostel we arrived there in around 9:00 p.m. We just dropped our bags and went into town to have some dinner and a good Smithwicks. Thursday morning we looked around town and had breakfast at the garden of Kilkenny Castle. On our way to Bantry we stopped at the "Rock of Cashel" and had the joy of watching some bulls having "fun" together. On Friday morning we were looking forward to a local market, which I found a bit disappointing. So we hit the road to go around the "Ring of Beara". I just say great! We stopped at the "Hungry Hill", to climb, but accidentally we just went to the water falls there, but anyway from there we had a beautiful view to the sea (below).
In Kilkenny we had a good time at Maggie`s listening to Irish folk.

No doubt this picture can`t be missed. I took it near the "Hungry Hill" where Anne-France and I stopped for a two hours hike.

From the water fall at "Hungry Hill". What do you think was it worth the wet feet Anne-France got?

After our hiking break at "Hungry Hill" we drove on to the only cable car in Ireland. This connects Dursey Island with the main Ireland. Arriving at the cable car at 5:00 p.m., we had the chance to go over but we would have just one chance to get back, at 7:00, and nothing to hide if it would have started to rain. After short discussion we decided to go. On this island is nothing else than sheep, grass, rotten cars and some lonely rotten buildings. As we wanted to be on time we were back at the station at half six. So we had time to take the shadow photo.

In Allihies we spend our third night. It is a sleepy small town right at the end of ... . On the north side of the Ring we really drove on "streets" were grass was in the middle of the way! We drove on top of the "Healy Pass" and had lunch and a great view from up there.

Leaving the far end of the "Ring of Beara" I took this picture. There are T-Shirts with a similar scene saying: "Irish Rush Hour"

Our last stop was Killarney. On Sunday we rented bikes and went on a boat/bike trip. The boat trip lead us over the three lakes there and was very impressing. At one stage we had to pull the boat up to the next lake. By bike we went back through the "Gap of Dunloe". Here Diana from Australia joined us. Unfortunately I had a small accident on the way down, which turned me upside down and the front wheel of the bike in a mess. I was lucky that without front break I was able to drive on. Getting back to Killarney and convincing the bike-rental-guy that it wasn`t on purpose we started our long journey back to Dublin.
