2 Days Hiking over Harris Saddle

From the base "Queenstown" where I left my small daypack in a hostel, I map einfügen!! drove around the the lake to my starting point. I was fortune that some people of group rented a car to go further south the the Milford Sound. The gave me a lift. So I started walking. Hiking wise they just differ between summer and winter. At this point it was still consindered to be winter . This meant that the huts were not bewirtschaftet, but open to sleep there. It also meant that the trails were not controlled.

After a very cold night (Freezing outside) I got up at six a clock with the first sun coming out. I was nopt sure if it would be possible to go up and cross Harries Saddle. But it did not snow during night and there were just the 5 centimeters from last night. So I started of and after knee deep snow I finally reached Harries Saddle where I took this picture of myself.

I love the silence of the trip and not meeting anybody for hours. After one hour the snow became more rare and it was a betifull spring day. Some falling trees and a big landslinde were smaler dificulties. I finally made it to my meeting point 3 hours before the fixed time. The hiking taxi took me back to the hostel in Queenstown.
